The Sugar Plum Fairy Comes to Santa Rosa Beach

The Ballet Conservatory and Destin School of Music and Dance will host their annual presentation of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker.

The program will be held  Dec. 15th and Dec. 16th at 3 pm at the South Walton High School auditorium in Santa Rosa Beach on Hwy 331.

The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the classic story "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice" written by E.T.A. Hoffman.

Although routines seen on the stages across the world today are quite different from the original story, the basic plot remains.

Audiences young and old enjoy the story of a young German girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a mouse King. Attendance at the various performances worldwide has become a holiday tradition for millions.

When Marius Petipa had the idea to choreograph the story into a ballet, it was actually based on a revision by Alexander Dumas, the well-known French author.  His version reflects more of what we have come to love as the Nutcracker Ballet.

Watch with delight as Clara navigates the classic holiday dream tale, sugar plum fairy and all, to awaken and find herself home by her Christmas tree with her beloved Nutcracker.

The Ballet Conservatory and Destin School of Music and Dance provide high quality music and dance performances and instruction for students of all ages. Students gain confidence, poise, and lasting friendships by studying music and dance with nurturing teachers in a non-competitive environment while the school strives to enrich the young lives and to instill a love of music and dance that will last throughout their lifetimes.
